about us

mike-michelleMy wife, Michelle, and I are from Indiana.  We met at Marian College in Indianapolis and were married in 1982.   We have five children and one grandchild.  Indianapolis Indiana has been our home base for all of our adult lives.  Our oldest daughter lives in Indiana and is a student.  Our oldest son lives in Turku, Finland with his wife.  They have a little girl (our first grand-baby).    Our youngest daughter is preparing to attend bible college this fall.  Our two youngest sons are in high school and enjoy music.

new-image-21In October 1994, God called me into full time ministry when Pastor George Markey  returned to Indianapolis from Kiev, Ukraine, where he served as a pastor/missionary.  He was looking for people to join he and his family to help with the work God had begun.  In December, my wife and I boarded a plane to spend a week in Kiev.  It was a scouting trip to see if God would be calling us to missions.  He was and He did.  We have had the tremendous blessing to serve the people of Ukraine since that time.

In May, 1995, our family began our mission to Ukraine serving at Calvary Chapel of Kiev.  We learned much as we saw a church and a nation grow.  While in Kiev, God provided opportunities to help with administrative needs in the church, teaching, evangelism, discipleship, and distribution of humanitarian aid.

In 2001, my family and I were called to plant a church in the city of Dnipropetrovs’k.  God brought together a team of fellow missionaries to help get the new work started.  We began in our living room with a bible study and God blessed us, bringing growth in our love for Him and for one another.  Word spread and soon we needed to rent a theater.  That was the beginning of Calvary Chapel of Dnipropetrovs’k.

Our vision was to teach the Word of God, verse by verse, to encourage, challenge, and disciple men and women of all ages.  God blessed us.  The church grew and one by one we began working ourselves out of a job.  The goal was to turn the church over to Ukrainians.  That mission was completed in March of 2008.  I stepped down as pastor and Vitaly Perigov became the new pastor of Calvary Chapel of Dnipropetrovs’k.

We returned to America for a furlough.  We have not been back as a family in five years.  It was time to become reacquainted with friends and family and to pray about what is next.  Our love for Ukraine has not changed and we recognize God’s call to continue in missions.  In February of 2009 we began the process of sharing our heart for missions with churches and ministries in America.  Today we live in L’viv, Ukraine where I am starting a new church.
